The Cleveland Cavaliers are in a slump, having lost four of their last five games entering Monday’s marquee matchup with the Golden State Warriors. They have a 26-16 record, which is only good for third best in the Eastern Conference or seven games removed from first place. But that’s not going to hold Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue from saying what he has always believed in, though – that Cleveland is the best team in the East, largely because they have the best player in the world.
Lue is not talking about Channing Frye of course, but rather, LeBron James, per Mark Medina of The Mercury News.
Whether he wins this season’s MVP award or not, James remains as one of the best — if not the best — player on the planet. At 33, James continues to produce eye-popping numbers. So far this season, James is averaging 27.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game. Apart from that, James is also shooting a very efficient 55.4 percent from the field. His 3-point accuracy has gotten better too, as the four-time NBA MVP is making 38.0 percent of his tries from deep.
Regardless if they make the playoffs as No. 1 seed or not, the Cavs are likely to be the heavy favorites to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals.
The Cavs are notorious for going on a downward spiral during the first month of the year, but they always make the playoffs look as easy as a walk in a park. It remains to be seen, however, whether that would be the case again this season for Tyronne Lue’s team.
