Tristan Thompson thinks Cavs’ recent wins a sign they’re headed in ‘right direction’

The Cleveland Cavaliers came up with an impressive victory on Friday, defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves, 94-88. The Cavs have been on an inspiring run of late  — something that Cleveland big man Tristan Thompson believes to be a great sign for the team moving forward.

“This team is fighting,” Cavs center Tristan Thompson told reporters, via Sam Amico of Sports Illustrated. “We’ve won four out of the last five games, so something is going in the right direction.”

Thompson was outstanding against the Wolves, logging a 12-point, 15-rebound double-double, along with three assists and a block in 35 minutes of action. The 28-year-old has been remarkable for his side all season long, averaging a career-best 12.8 points (on 50.3 percent shooting), 10.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists (also a career high), 0.8 steals, and 1.0 blocks in 31.4 minutes per contest.

Despite their recent run, the Cavs are still far from a playoff team in the East. They are currently in possession of a 10-22 record, and are sitting at the 12th spot in the conference, above only the Washington Wizards, the New York Knicks, and the league-worst Atlanta Hawks. For the record, though, Cleveland are just four games outside the playoffs picture in the East as we approach the midway point of the regular season.

As Thompson said above, however, the important things is that the Cavs have been showing their resiliency of late. Despite their early season struggles, they have found a way to string together a few wins and shift the momentum towards their direction. It’s way too early to tell, but based on this team’s recent performances, Cleveland might just have a better season this year than initially expected.
