Amid the Superbowl hype between the Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots, Tristan Thompson of the Cleveland Cavaliers sneaked in his support for his home team, the Cleveland Browns.
Via Twitter, Thompson appeared to guarantee that the Browns will qualify for the Superbowl next season. The Browns finished with a 7-8-1 record and have not qualified for the playoffs since 2002. This season was a huge improvement from 2017’s 0-16 record. Say what you want to say, but Thompson’s optimism is not based on blind fanaticism.
Thompson’s tweet was met by various replies. Some believe that his statement was pretty much nonsense — much like his declaration earlier in the season that the Cavaliers are still the team to beat given that they are the defending Eastern Conference champions. But some showered him with praise for believing in the Cleveland sports teams.
Currently, Thompson is out due to foot soreness. He has missed two straight games and is set to miss the wine and gold’s game against the Chicago Bulls on Monday. Early in the season, Thompson missed 10 straight games due to a sprained foot. 22-year-old Ante Zizic will take on the starting center role and play bigger minutes. Thompson has joined Larry Nance Jr., David Nwaba, and Kevin Love in the list of injured Cavaliers players.
