Cleveland Cavaliers big man Tristan Thompson has been out of the team’s lineup since Nov. 1 with what has been called a “calf strain.” However, it sounds like he’ll be returning to action on Tuesday night — albeit in a reserve role.
After Monday morning’s practice session at Cleveland Clinic Courts, Thompson, now 26 years of age, was asked about coming off the bench for the Cavs. The 6-10 rebounding machine says he just wants to help his team.
“I’m a team first guy,” Thompson told Fred McLeod of Fox Sports Ohio. “I’m about winning.”
Thompson’s status will be re-evaluated after Tuesday morning’s practice, where the former Texas Longhhorns stand-out is expected to take part in three-on-three drills with Isaiah Thomas and members of the Cavs’ coaching staff.
“I don’t like being hurt,” Thompson added. “I’d rather play. I love to compete.”
In his eight games played this season, Thompson has turned in averages of 4.4 points on 57.7 percent shooting from the field and 6.4 rebounds. Despite the fact that he’s been out of the rotation, the Cavs have managed to win 14 of their last 15 games, including a franchise record-tying 13-game win streak.
Exactly how much playing time Thompson will see in Tuesday night’s game (and going forward) remains to be seen. One fact is clear, though: he wants to help his team win.
