Cleveland Cavaliers big man Tristan Thompson, who has missed the last 15 games due to foot soreness, might miss some more games as he is yet to participate in full-contact practice.
Cavs head coach Larry Drew gave an update on Thompson’s status on Monday before his team faced the Portland Trail Blazers. Per Chris Manning of SB Nation, Thompson has not yet participated in a full-contact practice and has to go through one before he can play.
The 27-year-old has only played a total of 35 games this season. Earlier this campaign, he missed 10 games due to a knee injury. For the season, Tristan Thompson is averaging 11.5 points and 11.1 rebounds per game.
In his absence, Larry Nance Jr. and Ante Zizic have received more playing time. Apart from which, Kevin Love — who’s getting healthier by the minute — will likely ramp up more time in the frontcourt. Moreover, John Henson has been receiving some ample playtime to show what he’s got.
At this point in the season, we should expect the Cavs to take their time in rehabbing Thompson. After all, the Wine and Gold sport a 14-47 record, one of the worst in the NBA. A practical move would be to keep their top players like Thompson healthy for next year.
