Cavs big man Tristan Thompson is expected to miss time due to his eye injury, per Sam Amico of Sports Illustrated.
The Cavs have already ruled Thompson out for Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Bulls.
Thompson has appeared in 57 games for the Cavs this season. He’s averaging 12.0 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 51.2 percent from the field, 39.1 percent from beyond the arc and 61.5 percent from the free-throw line.
The Cavs are 19-45 on the season. They are in 14th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Cleveland will likely try to trade All-Star power forward Kevin Love in the summer after failing to move him at the trade deadline. Meanwhile, Thompson becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season ends and it doesn’t make sense for the Cavs or the big man to strike a new deal.
New center Andre Drummond, meanwhile, has a player option for 2020-21 that he is expected to pick up. He’s only 26 and puts up great numbers, but Drummond doesn’t really impact winning, so the Cavs could try to flip him in the offseason as well.
Tristan Thompson has spent his entire NBA career with the Cavs. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft and has career averages of 9.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists.
