With the start of the 2017-18 NBA season approaching fast, teams all across the nation are beginning to fill up their 20-man training camp rosters, including the Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
On Monday night, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported that the Cavs will round out their training camp lineup with JaCorey Williams, a 23-year-old small forward who was named Conference USA Player of the Year in 2017 for his outstanding play with the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders (17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game).
“(Williams) was a standout at the Portsmouth Invitational before the draft,” McMenamin writes in his recent article. “The Cavs hope to develop him in the G-League with the Canton Charge. He will likely receive an Exhibit 10 deal, giving the Cavs a chance to convert the contract to one of their two two-way slots should he impress.”
Williams is a high energy player who possesses a smooth left-handed stroke, crafty ball-handling skills, and explosive dunking capabilities. Furthermore, his 6-8 frame equates to a strong presence on the glass.
Let’s take a look at some of Williams’ highlights from his stint with MTSU.
As most hoops fans know, the Cavs’ front office has been keeping a close eye on the situation surrounding Dwyane Wade’s recent buyout with the Chicago Bulls. McMenamin reports that Williams’ invite to Cavs training camp will not affect the team’s pursuit of Wade.
With the Cavs’ roster now at 20 men, it’s time for the grind to begin.
