The Cleveland Cavaliers’ success in 2018-19 depends partly on the progress of Collin Sexton. The rookie is expected to have a major impact right away in the post-LeBron James era. If the Summer League games were the basis, Sexton could prove his critics wrong.
The No. 8 pick was part of the All-NBA Summer League first team due to his stellar play. Sexton posted 137 points, 25 rebounds and 24 assists in seven Summer League games. If those numbers were not impressive enough, the guard from Alabama also showed tenacity on the defensive end, highlighted by his flexing of muscles against an opponent.
The Cavs seem confident with their young bull, and fans caught a glimpse of the rookie in his new threads on Thursday.
Cavs fans are used to seeing a stud point guard wearing No. 2, and Sexton will have big shoes to fill after Kyrie Irving’s departure last summer. If Sexton can translate his fine showing in the Summer League to actual NBA games, the Cavs’ gamble on picking him at 8th will pay off handsomely.
