Brooklyn Nets small forward Jared Dudley is calling out the veterans on the Cavs for their anonymous criticism of rookie point guard Collin Sexton.
Over the weekend, Joe Vardon of the Athletic reported that Cavs veterans don’t believe Sexton knows how to play the game.
Jared Dudley, upon seeing the rumor on Twitter, was quick to voice his opinion.
In nine games this season, Collin Sexton is averaging 11.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 41.3 percent from the field, 22.2 percent from beyond the arc and 91.4 percent from the free-throw line. The Cavs selected Sexton with the eighth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft out of Alabama.
Jared Dudley is 100 percent correct. The veterans on the Cavs should be helping Sexton grow and get better as a player instead of talking behind his back to the media.
Things in Cleveland are just an absolute mess right now. The team is 1-8, All-Star power forward Kevin Love is out for the foreseeable future after undergoing foot surgery, Tyronn Lue was just fired as head coach, and now this whole Sexton drama is going dominate the news cycle for some time.
The Cavs need to trade George Hill, Kyle Korver and J.R. Smith as soon as possible. It’s clear that Hill hasn’t been a good mentor to Sexton, while Korver and Smith’s roles have diminished since this is a rebuilding year in Cleveland.
