On Tuesday evening, the Cleveland Cavaliers continued their preseason slate with a 118-100 win over the Detroit Pistons at home. It was a solid team effort from the Cavs, led by point guard Lonzo Ball, who scored nine points to go along with nine assists and four rebounds, putting in some excellent defense on the way.

Throughout the evening, Ball made some excellent passes as well as steals on the defensive end of the floor, and Cavs fans on an NBA Subreddit couldn’t contain their excitement.

“Not even trying to joke. Lonzo’s playmaking, 3 point shooting, and 40 inch vert (lol), were what made him such an interesting PG prospect. Even if he’s only 75% of what he used to be, I believed he was going to be a huge positive for whoever got him. Sticking him on the Cavs? One of the best moves of the offseason imo,” wrote one fan.

“Probably the best I’ve seen him look since the injury, a menace in transition again and ridiculous passing,” added another.

One fan made a historical comparison for him.

“Lonzo probably has lost 30 percent of his athleticism, but dude is a braniac. hes like mavericks jason kidd if healthy (still less athletic),” they wrote.

A big piece for the Cavs

The Cavs acquired Lonzo Ball this offseason, sending Isaac Okoro to the Chicago Bulls in return. As the fans on Reddit noted, Ball is no longer close to the same athlete that he was during his early days in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, he still has every bit of the same basketball IQ, and can knock down threes and defend at an elite level.

The backup point guard position has been a key one for contending NBA teams in recent years, with players like Rajon Rondo turning back the clock in recent years and helping their teams win championships. The Cavs will certainly hope that Ball is able to stay healthy and can have a similar impact on their success moving forward.

The Cavs will kick off their 2025-26 season on the road against the New York Knicks on October 22.
