Former Cleveland Cavaliers star guard Mark Price is feeling great about the Cavs. On Tuesday, the four-time NBA All-Star expressed his positive outlook for Cleveland in 2025.
“It’s Christmas Eve and the @cavs are 26-4…Best record in the league! Merry Christmas Northeast Ohio! 2025 is going to be so much fun to watch. Go @cavs,” Price posted on X (formerly Twitter).
With already a third of the 2024-25 NBA regular season over, the Cavs continue to look like a serious title contender. They started the season (and the Kenny Atkinson era in The Land) like a house on fire, winning 15 games a in row before suffering their first loss, which came at the hands of the reigning NBA champions Boston Celtics.
That defeat, however, did not prompt major regression on the part of the Cavaliers, who have since won 11 of 15 games, including ones against, well, the Celtics, Denver Nuggets, Miami Heat and 2024 NBA Cup champs Milwaukee Bucks. Over that 15-game stretch, the Cavaliers averaged 119.9 points and held opponents to just 109.0 points.
The Cavs have what it takes to sustain their success
There are reasons for Price and Cavs fans’ optimism for the team. For one, the Cavaliers can be considered elite on both ends of the floor. Cleveland is second overall in the NBA so far in the season with 121.8 points per game and tops with a 59.4 effective field goal percentage. On defense, the Cavs are 10th with 110.2 points given up per contest and eighth with a defensive 52.9 effective field goal percentage.
The Cavs also have star power, with Donovan Mitchell leading the attack in the backcourt alongside Darius Garland, who is having a bounce-back season after a down year in the 2023-24 campaign. Meanwhile, Evan Mobley continues his ascent in the league as an important frontcourt piece for the Cavs along with Jarrett Allen.
Cleveland, which is on a five-game win streak, has three more games to play before 2025. The Cavaliers are scheduled to start a three-game road trip this Sunday against the Nuggets before meeting the Golden State Warriors on Monday. The Cavs’ final 2024 assignment will be in a matchup versus LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 31.
