It’s no secret that LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have the utmost respect for each other, and their individual skill sets. Being very good friends, they have always had nothing but good words to say about their games, which continued on Monday, when The King addressed the media for the first time since suffering an injury in the preseason.
When asked about his ability to be rim protector, he deflected the credit for it, and said that he does not consider him as such. Instead, he said it’s Wade who can be called a shot blocker, and not him.
James does make a good point, as the Cleveland Cavaliers’ latest signing is one of the all time leaders in blocked shots among guards. Wade is averaging 1.0 blocks per game, and has rejected 800 shots throughout his stellar NBA career. He may not be the one of the tallest shooting guards in the league, but he has great timing, and a knack to help from the weak side, which allows him to be effective on blocking shots.
Although the past two seasons, Wade has only averaged 0.8 blocks per game, but it’s still more than what most guards had in the league. If he can get close to that number, or even surpass it this season, it will be a huge boost to the Cavs’ chances of contending for a title, and will give them a new strength in their game as well.
