As most hoops fans know, Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James, who is now in his 15th year of NBA service, is eligible to become a free agent after the 2017-18 season. There are some experts and analysts who believe the three-time champion is considering a departure from his hometown team (again). However, others feel that he is content with riding off into the Northeast Ohio sunset.

At this moment, it’s probably safe to say that nobody on Kyrie Irving’s flat Earth knows James’ true intentions. In fact, according to Maverick Carter, James’ long-time friend and business partner, the decision process won’t start until a week after this season comes to an end.

Via Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com:

“LeBron James’ business partner Maverick Carter said James — in the final year of his deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers — won’t start thinking about his next career step until about a week after the NBA season comes to an end.”

On Wednesday, Carter sat down for a one-on-one interview on The Rich Eisen Show to discuss James’ future. Amid their dialogue, Carter mentioned that the King, now 32 years of age, is remaining focused on the task at hand.

“He never starts thinking about it before the end of the season, Carter said. “Whenever their season ends and hopefully it’s in June for his sake and the sake of his family because he goes crazy at home, usually a week after. Decompresses, lets it all calm down and then a week after. Sometimes he can take a little longer but at least a week after.”

How the Cavs, who have now lost four straight games, finish this season will certainly play a role in James’ final decision. For now, though, let’s just enjoy the ride.
