Earlier this week, the NBA announced that Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James had been voted into captaincy for the 2018 All-Star Game, marking his 14th consecutive appearance at the event. Only one other player in NBA history has as many consecutive All-Star Game starts to their credit as James: former Boston Celtics great Bob Cousy (13).
James, now 33 years of age and in his 15th season of NBA service, is showing no signs of regression. In his 44 games played for the Cavs this season, the three-time champion has turned in averages of 27.0 points on 55.4 percent shooting from the field (36.9 percent from beyond the arc), 8.7 assist (career-high), and 8.0 rebounds.
The NBA has initiated a new process in how All-Star teams are selected. Under the new format, two captains (James and Stephen Curry for 2018) will select from a pool of players who received enough votes to be deemed starters. James has the honor of picking first this season. Who he might select first has been a hot topic of debate.

James (29,975) is also nearing the 30,000 career point threshold. His first crack at reaching that prestigious plateau comes on Saturday afternoon, as the Cavs are scheduled to wrap up their three-game homestand with a matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder at 3:30 p.m. EST with ABC having live broadcast coverage.
