LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers sets another record yet again. This time, the Cavs star comes close to “The Logo” Jerry West for a postseason record.

LeBron James notches his 8th 40-point game of this postseason, tying Jerry West (1965) for the most in a single postseason in NBA history.

LeBron has 7 games of 40+ points in the NBA Finals, trailing only Jerry West’s 10 for the most in Finals history.

It has become a habit for James to break or tie record after record. Is this a function of an highly-sophisticated statistics system of the NBA? Or is it just LeBron forging his way deeper into NBA history as one of the greats?

James spoke about breaking records when he surpassed Michael Jordan’s all-time playoff scoring mark. He said that while it is great that he achieved a scoring milestone, it’s not his priority and playstyle. Per Aaron Dodson of The Undefeated, James said:

And I think the biggest thing for me, sitting here today after breaking the all-time scoring record in playoff history, is that I did it just being me. I don’t have to score the ball to make an impact in the basketball game, and that was my mindset when I started playing the game. I was like, ‘If I’m not scoring the ball, how can I still make an impact on the game?’ And it’s carried me all the way to this point now, and it’s going to carry me for the rest of my career, because scoring is not No. 1 on my agenda.”
