Even though Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James is not the leading candidate this season in the NBA MVP award race, his level of play this year is undeniably out of this world. Playing in his 15th season in the league, the Cavs’ superstar continues to dominate games on a regular basis. From time to time, he would drop a triple-double just to give everyone solid proof that he is far from done.
James had one such performance Monday night, when the four-time MVP steamrolled his way against the Milwaukee Bucks, scoring 40 points on 16-of-29 shooting, with 12 rebounds and 10 assists. James also notched two steals and a block in willing the Cavs to a 124-117 win, the team’s second in a row and third in four outings.
According to ESPN, James is now the third-oldest player to net a 40-point triple-double in NBA history.
LeBron James is doing it all for the Cavs, and it’s largely out of necessity. He is scoring, rebounding, and setting up teammates this many times per game because Cleveland probably would not be sniffing the upper half of the top eight teams in the Eastern Conference standings had James not been averaging 27.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 9.0 assists each outing.
With Cleveland still nursing plenty of hurt bodies on its roster, James needs to sustain his high level of play, especially with the Cavs still in danger of falling out of the top five in the East.
At present, Cleveland is 41-29, ahead only of sixth place Philadelphia 76ers by one full game.
