Sometimes, all the Cleveland Cavaliers have to do when they find themselves in distress is give the ball to LeBron James and let him do the rest.
The latest example of that came last Saturday, when James put his entire team on his back late in the game against the Memphis Grizzlies, as he scored the Cavs’ final 13 points to help Cleveland preserve a 116-111 victory – the team’s 11th straight win. When asked about his penchant for taking over games whenever he wants, James simply charged it to experience, per Nick Friedell of ESPN.
“It’s just experience,” James said. “I’ve been in a lot of big games, regular season, postseason, The Finals where you have to come through for your teammates. I just try to be as clutch as possible late in the game. And tonight was another one of those opportunities for me and I was able to come through for my team.
LeBron James is playing in his 15th season in the NBA and is less than a month away from turning 33, but he is arguably performing at the highest level of his career. So far this season, the four-time MVP is averaging 28.3 points, 8.7 assists, and 7.9 rebounds per game, while also shooting 58.4 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from long distance. Despite some stiff competition, the Cavs’ leader is clearly in the running for another MVP plum this season.
The Cavs made some key adjustments on their roster in the offseason, but James is still the barometer of the team. Cleveland will go as far as where James takes the team.
LeBron James and the Cavs will look to extend their unbeaten streak to 12 games in Windy City against the Chicago Bulls.
