Dwyane Wade and the Chicago Bulls have agreed on a buyout, making Wade an unrestricted free agent heading into the 2017-18 season. According to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, sources close to LeBron James’ camp are confident that Wade will opt to join the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“A source close to James expects Wade to ultimately choose Cleveland, and ESPN is reporting the Cavs are the “clear” favorite to get him.”
Wade played just one season for the Bulls, and is LeBron James’ best friend in the league. Before joining the Bulls last offseason, a number of reports had Wade meeting with Cavaliers management. Unfortunately, the Cavs couldn’t offer nearly as much as other interested teams like Chicago and the Denver Nuggets were offering, so the Cavs quickly fell off the radar.
With Wade giving up $8 million from the $23.8 million he was owed by the Bulls this year, it’s safe to say Wade isn’t going to chase money as much as he will a chance at an NBA Championship now that he’s 35 years old.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the San Antonio Spurs as well as the Miami Heat are serious contenders to land Wade, and the Oklahoma City Thunder are also considered a factor since acquiring star forward and good friend of Wade, Carmelo Anthony.
