In less than a week, LeBron James will make a decision on his $35.6 million player option for the 2018-19 season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Until then, we’ll have to indulge ourselves in the fun game is theorizing the Cavs star’s next destination.
For the longest time, many have speculated that James is likely headed to the Los Angeles Lakers. It’s hard not to come up with such guess. The Lakers have the assets and financial wiggle room to accommodate James and another superstar. The city’s appeal to someone like James also plays a part.
However, James’ conclusion of his traditional “Zero Dark Thirty-23” also sparked the curiosity of fans and pundits alike. His Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram display photos have just been updated and they now feature a throwback image of himself from his high school days at St. Vincent-St. Mary.
For the record, this could mean nothing. But then again, it’s LeBron James. The man whose every move is placed under the microscope. For what it’s worth, this image could be hinting that he’ll stay home.
James has made it known that his impending decision will be heavily influenced by his family’s decision. Los Angeles offers plenty of opportunities to “The James Gang” but Cleveland keeps them closer to home.
The Cavs’ drafting of Collin Sexton, while reaping praise, isn’t expected to move the needle in terms of James’ thought process. We’re all hostages to this offseason narrative, and we’ll just have to wait before information leaks out on what James had for breakfast.
