A year ago today, the city of Cleveland took down the LeBron James banner after The King took his talents to the Los Angeles Lakers after finishing up his second stint with the Cavs.

James wants Cavs fans to know, though, that no one can take the 2016 title banner and how he made the city feel during his two stints with the team away from him or the city.

LeBron James’ second stint with the Cavs was a success. Cleveland won the 2016 championship over the Golden State Warriors in seven games, becoming the first team in NBA history to erase a 3-1 series deficit in the Finals. That title made it easier for LeBron to leave the Cavs a second time. James signed a four-year deal with the Lakers last offseason.

Of course fans in Cleveland wanted James to stay with the Cavs, but he delivered the city a title. Akron’s favorite son will always be loved in Cleveland, a strike contrast to what we were saying back in 2010 when LeBron left for the Miami Heat. It’s amazing what coming back home, winning a title and building a school for your hometown can do for your reputation.

Hopefully, LeBron can end his NBA career with the Cavs. It would be a great storyline.
