The Cleveland Cavaliers experienced one of the most difficult losses in NBA Finals history in Game 1. For LeBron James, he even called it one of the most difficult losses of his career and said he lost sleep over it.
Since then, the Cavaliers went down 0-2 to the Golden State Warriors in a Game 2 blowout. But even so, the sting of that Game 1 fiasco was largely over.
However, that sting got worse when a uncut video emerged of James’ reaction during the timeout just moments after the game went to overtime. And once learned the team had a timeout, James was beside himself, and nearly inconsolable.
For those that haven’t seen it, the video is below.
It’s a gut-wrenching moment for Cavaliers fans, for sure. And James, to his credit, actually addressed the video during a media session on Tuesday. At first, he joked when Haynes brought it up and said, “Damn cameras,” later asking Haynes why he’s getting taken back to Game 1.
James then recalled what was going through his mind at that moment, and the entire answer is in the video below.
He ended his answer saying the loss was heartbreaking, seemingly remembering the feelings he felt in the immediate aftermath of Game 1. He actually said he wasn’t fully aware if the team had a timeout, and referenced a moment from Chris Webber’s college career that went down in infamy regarding timeouts called when there were none available.
James clearly did not like recalling the moment, but it was interesting to hear what he had going on in his mind at the time.
