All-Star forward LeBron James is just a few weeks removed from making the decision in free agency to play yet another chapter of his career away from the Cleveland Cavaliers after inking a four-year, $153 million deal to join the Los Angeles Lakers.
During the press conference for the grand opening to the new “I Promise” public school that he has helped pened in his hometown of Akron, Ohio, he voiced that he would be open to the idea of possibly returning to the Cavaliers for the third time in his career, according to Tom Withers of The Associated Press.
The fact that he was taken aback by the Cavaliers deciding to retire his jersey sounds like it means a lot to him on a personal level as he has spent the bulk of his career up to this point with the franchise. He has accomplished a lot with the organization that was capped off this last stint where he took them to four straight NBA Finals while winning their first NBA title. James also holds numerous franchise marks that have cemented his legacy as easily the top player in team history and one of the greatest to play in the league.
James could finish off his illustrious career with the Cavaliers after his four-year contract is up with the Lakers or possible in the summer of 2021 as he has a player option for the fourth year of the deal worth $41 million. Although it would be difficult to see him turn down that type of money for one season, there could be a scenario that sees him decide to head back to the team that drafted him back in 2003. Keep in mind, he does have the desire to play in the NBA with his son, LeBron James Jr.
Ultimately, these comments from the four-time league MVP do suggest that he could entertain the chance to come back to Cleveland once again.
