Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James has a list of achievements longer than a country mile. Over the course of his 15-year career in the NBA, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 Draft has racked up three championships, three Finals MVP’s, 13 All-Star nods (a record 14th pending), and 11 All-NBA First Team selections.
James is closing in on 30,000 career points. At 33 years of age, he would be the youngest player to accomplish such a feat.
After Thursday’s practice session at Cleveland Clinic Courts, James was asked to comment on his upcoming milestone. Though he’s had many influential mentors throughout his entire life, the Cavs star wanted to give credit to his junior high coach.
James is showing no signs of regression. In fact, it’s just the opposite. He is posting some of the best statistical figures of career. In his 43 appearances with the Cavs this season, The Akron Hammer has turned in averages of 27.3 points on 55.7 percent shooting from the field (37.6 percent from beyond the arc), 8.8 assists (career-high), and 8.0 rebounds per game.
“It’s not up there in the goals I set for myself,” James said after Wednesday’s practice on reaching 30,000 points. “I definitely look at the list (of the NBA’s top scorers). All of the guys who’ve played in this league and the number of guys who’ve played in this league. It’s definitely a select few, select company. So in that right, it’s special. And I can honestly sit here and say that I’ve never set out to set scoring records.”
“I know I’m getting close (to 30K),” James continued. “I know I’m getting close, but I don’t know where I am (on the list) right now. This is not one that I’m losing sleep over.”
