LeBron James, the newest superstar of the Los Angeles Lakers lore, has been caught watching a Cleveland Cavaliers game just minutes before the Lakers take the court against the Denver Nuggets. Bill Oram of The Athletic posted this interesting clip of James keeping his eyes locked on the Cavs to his Twitter account.
James was in the Lakers’ locker room, watching his former team take on the Boston Celtics. After four-straight championship appearances with the Cavs, The King was on the move again this summer when he signed a lucrative four-year, $154 million deal with the Lakers.
Despite leaving the city, LeBron has already left a great imprint on Cleveland, may it be on the basketball court or on the community. James was the undisputed most important player of the 2016 Cavs team that gave the city its first major sports championship in 52 years, an achievement that had a lasting effect not just on Cleveland, but on himself as well.
There’s no question that James was already the best player in the world even before that 2016 championship run. He already won two Larry O’Brien trophies with the Miami Heat. But the four-time NBA MVP cemented his legacy and image when he fulfilled his promise to deliver a championship to Cleveland and complete an unfinished business.
Darren Rovell of ESPN also wrote about how James helped change the structure of Cleveland’s economy.
“In the first seven years LeBron was here, he gave business people the confidence to double down and invest,” said Joe Roman, president and CEO of the Greater Cleveland Partnership, the Chamber of Commerce governed by more than 70 CEOs in Northeast Ohio that sit on its board. “It changed the energy behind the decision-making process.”
Indeed, LeBron James has already developed an enduring bond with the city of Cleveland, making him one of the most important figures in town, regardless of wherever he plays.
