LeBron James, the Cavs superstar, operates in a much different world than the people who came before him. Moreover, he knows his son will operate in one on even another-level than his.
The world of social media has been a new thing that players have had to deal with the last 10 years. Back in the 1980’s, if someone wanted to talk trash to a player, they had to try and do it at a game or send that player a letter. Now all someone has to do is log onto their Twitter account and they can say almost anything they want or about any famous person.
LeBron James acknowledges that social media can be good, but it can also be a curse for some players especially young ones, so he has one word of advice to his son, turn off the comments.
Social media can be a ruthless place, and it doesn’t matter a person’s age, people will still say mean comments. James Jr. is trying to follow in his father’s footsteps and he has already got college teams watching him, and he’s only 13 years old.
According to ESPN, all the way back in 2016, James Jr. already had scholarship offers from Duke and Kentucky, and as he gets older, the recruiting battle is only going to heat up more.
“Yeah, he’s already got some offers from colleges,” James said. “It’s pretty crazy. It should be a violation. You shouldn’t be recruiting 10-year-old kids.”
The expectations are only going to grow for James Jr. and everything he does is going to be compared to his dad, but the one thing he doesn’t need is more pressure on social media, so like his father says, turn off those comments.
