It’s LeBron James birthday today, so what did he get himself? Why another basketball record of course.
Playing against the Utah Jazz Saturday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar mustered enough numbers to cement himself as the only player in NBA history to amass at least 29,000 points, 8,000 rebounds, and 7,000 assists, as noted by Kenny Honaker of CavsNation.
In other words, James is like Karl Malone and John Stockton rolled into one player, at least speaking from a statistical perspective.
James would finish the Jazz game with 29 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. He shot 12-of-22 from the floor, but was only 1-of-7 from three-point land. His effort, however, was not enough to pull Cleveland into a win as the Cavs absorbed a 104-101 loss, the team’s fourth in five games.
It also ended the Cavs’ year on a sad note, as they won’t play again until next year – a Jan. 2 road game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
In any case, James is still playing terrific basketball this season. He entered the Jazz game with averages of 27.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game, while making 56 percent of his field goal attempts.
