Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James is back to setting records in the NBA. On Monday night, the four-time league MVP broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s career playoffs field goals made mark when he knocked down a jumper from the left side late in the second quarter of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals series for the Cavs.
James entered the game with 2,351 career postseason baskets, just five back of Abdul-Jabbar’s 2,356 field goals. James would bury two more field goals before halftime to finish the first half with 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field. James also set the newest mark for field goals made in the postseason in only 232 games while Abdul-Jabbar garnered his in 237 contests.
James has been doing a herculean job of keeping the Cavs’ heads above water in these playoffs in which he is averaging 32.9 points, 9.4 assists, and 8.9 rebounds, while also shooting 54.5 percent from the field.
With the way the 33-year-old forward is playing, it looks like he will have plenty more opportunities to add to his career playoffs numbers not only this year but in future seasons.
A win Monday against the Celtics would see James and the Cavs tie the series at two wins apiece. Game 5 will be in Boston this coming Wednesday.
