It was a historic night all-around for LeBron James as he hit the Washington Wizards for 57 points on Friday night. Not only did he become the youngest player to reach 29,000 points, but he also tied the Cleveland Cavaliers’ franchise mark for most points in a single game; previously held by an old teammate of his.
James already owns just about every significant record there is to own in Cavs franchise history, so it’s only fitting that he once again holds at least a share of the single-game scoring mark.
But what makes his 57 points a bit more impressive than Kyrie’s was that Irving needed overtime and seven three-pointers to reach that mark. James went just 2-of-4 on three-pointers, and went 21-of-30 from inside the arc within 48 minutes.
That 57-point game was the 11th in James’ illustrious career, moving him into a tie for sixth in the all-time 50-point game list with arguably the greatest pound-for-pound scorer ever.
Next up on the list is Rick Barry, who is fifth with 14, while Elgin Baylor is fourth with 17.
Despite being 33 years of age and already on his 15th year in the league, James doesn’t appear to be showing any signs of slowing down. If the Wizards game is any indication, chances are he still has a handful of 50-point games in him before he finally calls it a career.
