Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Larry Drew strongly believes that his team is starting to develop into one cohesive unit.
As per Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, Drew spoke about his team, which has been struggling so far early in the season. Despite the losses, Drew observed that he and the players are starting to figure each other out. He believes that The Wine and Gold are a much better team now than it was earlier this season.
“I think we’re starting to kind of figure out each other,” Drew said. “I think right now with the team and how we’ve been playing lately, I think they’re starting to understand what I’m looking for. I think we’re doing things a little bit better than the last time we played (Charlotte). I don’t think we are that same team at this point. I really feel like we’ve made strides since the last time we played this team.”
Drew, who took over the coaching job from Tyronn Lue, was speaking about their game against the Charlotte Hornets last November 3, where they gave up 126 points and left the arena disheveled and unmotivated. They’ve allowed their foes to score over a hundred in 10 out of 12 games.
However, for the past two games, they’ve held their opponents under 100 points. They still haven’t found a formula to win as they are at the very bottom of the standings with a 1-11 record. But Tristan Thompson, who earlier claimed that they are still the team to beat, remained positive. For him, the losses that they’ve experienced aren’t so bad. All they need to do is recalibrate a bit.
“Obviously you want to get the W, but these losses haven’t been bad losses and they’ve been losses where one or two minor tweaks and you win the ballgame. So that’s a positive thing about it,” Thompson said.
