Times are tough in Cleveland, and on Wednesday night, Cavs head coach Larry Drew reached a boiling point as he was ejected late in his team’s loss to the Charlotte Hornets, according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic.
Drew took over as the Cavs’ head coach in late October after Tyronn Lue was fired from his post.
Since taking the reigns in Cleveland, Larry Drew has led the Cavs to an 8-18 record, bringing them to 8-23 overall on the season.
Of course, this isn’t Drew’s first rodeo in the NBA.
Larry Drew served as head coach of the Atlanta Hawks for three years from the 2010-11 campaign through 2012-13, leading the Hawks to a 128-102 record and playoff appearances in each season.
Prior to nabbing Atlanta’s head coaching job, he served as an assistant for the team for six seasons.
Following his stint with the Hawks, Drew was hired as the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks in 2013-14, lasting just one season after the Bucks won a miserable 15 games.
He then landed in Cleveland as an assistant coach, arriving the same year LeBron James returned to the Cavs. Drew held the title of assistant coach for two years before being elevated to “associate head coach” in 2016-17, although Lue still called the shots.
Also, last season, Lue stepped away for nine games to deal with some health issues. During that time, Drew served as interim head coach, leading the Cavaliers to an 8-1 record over that span.
Cleveland will now head on the road to take on the Toronto Raptors this Friday.
