The Cleveland Cavaliers are nearing the completion on a deal that would send All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics.
In the process, many different perspectives have been provided on the situation that has given further insight. During a recent interview with Jason Jordan of USA TODAY High School Sports, Irving’s high school coach Kevin Boyle stated that he would not have traded the 25-year-old at all.
“I would not have traded him at all,” said the Montverde Academy (Fla.) head coach. “People might say it’s done, you’re not gonna repair the relationship or whatever the case may be; you had the thing with Shaq and Kobe going back so I would’ve done everything in my power to try to make that work. When’s the next time Cleveland is gonna LeBron and Kyrie-level players together?
There have been many that have gone to the conclusion that the relationship between Irving and LeBron James has reached an irreparable stage. The fact of the matter is that the four-time All-Star wants to take over the role as the primary superstar of an NBA team in the manner that James has with the Cavaliers.
Irving wants to be the face of the franchise and that is something he cannot achieve as long as he’s teammates with the four-time league MVP. This is not a shot at James but rather the reality that a player faces when playing alongside him.
The Cavaliers may have a hard time finding another talented point guard like Irving to pair with James, but it’s a situation that has run its course.
