The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without their 3-point assassin, Kyle Korver, on Tuesday and Wednesday due to a sore foot. The Cavs are set to take on the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday before traveling to Washington to take on the flailing Wizards on Wednesday.
According to Spencer Davies of Basketball Insiders, Kyle Korver has been dealing with a foot issue since Saturday’s match-up with the Chicago Bulls. He has already been ruled out against the Hornets, and Cavs coach Larry Drew expects the 37-year-old NBA veteran to miss out the second game of their back-to-back.
Korver has taken on a lesser role in Cleveland and was put into a difficult position this season. The Cavs were toeing the line between initiating the rebuild and trying to contend for the playoffs. They weren’t quite sure which way to go, and now the former All-Star is stuck playing for a team that will find itself near the top of the 2019 draft.
Korver is still one of the most dependable 3-point shooters in the NBA and he can provide some much-needed shooting to a contender. Hopefully, this foot injury that is keeping him sidelined is only a minor issue. He deserves to have an opportunity to join a contender and try to make a difference in the playoffs.
So far this season, Korver is shooting 38.7 percent from deep. This is a dip from his career percentage of 43.1, but it’s still a great number. Contending teams like the Sixers or even the LeBron James-led Lakers would benefit from having another shooter on the roster to stretch the floor.
Korver’s immediate future looks bleak, as he’ll be relegated to the bench for the next two nights, but his long-term future is still up in the air.
