To the surprise of many, the Cleveland Cavaliers pulled off a blockbuster trade for All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell on Thursday, adding to an already talented core of Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen. The man behind the magic, Cavs president Koby Altman, has addressed his decision to beat the New York Knicks to the punch for one of the top players in the league.
“The acquisition of Donovan Mitchell presented us with an incredible opportunity to bring one of the NBA’s most dynamic young All-Stars to Cleveland. Already a special and proven talent at 25 years old, Donovan brings a competitive mentality that organically fits with the core group of this team,” Koby Altman said.
“We are excited to see the impact that someone of Donovan’s caliber can bring to the Cavs with his ability to score the basketball, but also make plays for his teammates.
Mitchell was the main man in Utah for several years and although he wasn’t table to lead them to a deep playoff run, the former Louisville standout is a proven player who can score at all three levels and facilitate the rock very well.
Koby Altman truly just formed one of the best backcourts in the Association with the addition of Spida, joining Garland, who is coming off his best campaign yet in his young career.
Cleveland truly has a possible four All-Stars in their starting lineup in Mitchell, Garland, Allen, and Mobley, a ROTY runner-up in 2021-22. Cavs fans should be absolutely ecstatic. The future looks bright for many years to come.
