After seeing Kevin Love exit the game abruptly on Tuesday versus the Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers fans held their breaths as they feared that the All-Star forward suffered a serious injury. Those worries turned into a nightmare as reports came out that the Cavs big man indeed fractured his left hand, and will most likely miss the next six to eight weeks of action.
However, if there’s any hope left for him and the fans, they can look back to the time New Orleans Pelicans star big man Anthony Davis suffered the same injury but was only forced to remain on the shelf for seven games. There was no need for him to go under the knife in 2013, and he recovered faster than the initial timetable given to him, according to Jeff Zillgitt of USA TODAY Sports via Jeff Stotts of Rotowire.
These leaves a small glimmer of hope that Love may be able to suit up again for the Wine and Gold in just a couple of weeks. His ability to shoot 3-pointers, coupled with his prowess in rebounding are just some things the Cavs will miss as he recovers from the hand injury, although it still depends on the severity of what he suffered and his body’s response to rest and rehabilitation.
For now, it remains to be seen what the final diagnosis of doctors will be for Love, but knowing that Davis came back quickly before may serve as motivation for him to also do the same and be with his teammates again on the court soon.
The Cavs will make an announcement soon on Love’s injury. However, it should be noted that Davis was still very young when he suffered the injury, while Love is now 29 years old.
