Cleveland Cavaliers fans received a bit of good news on Tuesday morning.

Surrounded by workers from The Q Transformation Project, Cavs general manager Koby Altman announced that Kevin Love has agreed to the terms of a four-year, $120 million contract extension.

“Our five-time All-Star, Kevin Love, has committed to a multi-year extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers,” Altman said during his press conference. “It’s a huge deal for this organization, this franchise, and for the city. Kevin really wants to be here.”

According to a report from Joe Vardon of cleveland.com, there is no player option or no-trade clause in Love’s new contract.

So what does this mean? Well, it means the Cavs can’t trade him for six months. This also seems to indicate that the team would like to have their double-double machine onboard for the proverbial long haul.

“There is no player option or no-trade clause in this contract,” Vardon writes in his recent article. “The Cavs can’t trade him for six months, but, at least for now, this isn’t a deal made so the team can turnaround and move their new centerpiece.”

Love, 29, has played a huge role in Cleveland’s recent success. The former UCLA stand-out appeared in 59 games with the Cavs during their 2017-18 regular-season campaign, racking up averages of 17.6 points on 45.8 percent shooting from the field (41.5 percent from beyond the arc), 9.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 0.7 steals in 28.0 minutes per outing. All things considered, it was one of his best seasons in the NBA.

In a news release issued on the morning of his contract extension, Love noted that he’s had a long-term mindset in Cleveland for quite a while.

“When I first came to Cleveland, I came with a long-term mindset,” Love said via cleveland.com.

“I came here to win,” Love continued. “We developed a culture here that reflects that. I’m super excited and I couldn’t be happier. It’s a big commitment for me and it’s a big commitment from the Cavaliers, so I want to thank Dan Gilbert, Koby Altman and the entire organization. I enjoy playing here, I’m excited about the team that we have and look forward to our future together. Cleveland fans have been special from day one and I’m also looking forward to continuing to be a part of this great community.”

With the paperwork formalities out of the way now, it seems Love and the Cavs are ready to focus on the future — together.
