On January 30, Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love broke his hand in a game against the Detroit Pistons. Initially, the injury didn’t seem serious as the Cavs forward was able to continue on the court for a few minutes.
However, Love experienced some discomfort and is now scheduled to miss up to two months with the injury. Love doesn’t plan to undergo surgery for his broken hand, and it appears that he won’t need a cast on it either, according to Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor.
Kevin Love does not need a cast. He has a removable splint that he can take off, but needs to be in it about 99% of the time. Also, he plans to attend NBA All-Star Weekend, despite not being able to participate.
Love’s hand injury is awfully peculiar. While his injury isn’t too serious for the Cavs big man to undergo surgery or wear a cast, he still has to wear a splint almost all the time for his hand to heal. Nonetheless, Love will be out of the Cavs’ lineup for at least two months. He does plan to attend the NBA All-Star weekend instead of resting up or going on a vacation. Maybe Love can come back sooner than what people think, although that is a long shot.
One thing is definitely for sure. The Cavs don’t have a lot of options as replacements for Love. Jae Crowder is too undersized to take Love’s place, and Tristan Thompson has been far too inconsistent this year to make any sort of impact. Therefore, all eyes will be watching Love during the duration of his recovery period.
