Keon Ellis is proving that the Cleveland Cavaliers made the right decision in trading for him.
Ellis, along with Dennis Schroder, was acquired by the Cavaliers before the trade deadline from the Sacramento Kings in a three-team deal that also involved the Chicago Bulls.
Ellis had long been mentioned in trade rumors, with the Kings looking to unload some of their guards. While he was the odd man out in Sacramento, he has been a key addition in Cleveland, especially on defense.
In his brief stint with the Cavaliers, the 26-year-old Ellis has already registered 15 steals and 14 blocks, as pointed out by a post on X. Ellis shared it and added a lock emoji.
Ellis must be playing with an extra chip on his shoulder after the Kings shipped him, and it should only bode well for the Cavaliers.
Fans also acknowledged Ellisā impact.
āSo glad youāre on this team. Keep killing,ā said @Lynchables_.
āGuyās gonna be huge for us when we play Boston (Celtics) and OKC (Thunder),ā added @HollenOats.
āYour trade is giving me 2016 Shump/JR trade vibes in 2026,ā wrote @MikeIngelido, referring to Iman Shumpert and JR Smith. āHopefully, you, 1 (James Harden), and Schroder are the missing pieces to this yearās ship. Canāt wait to hang another banner!ā
āLove the toughness and energy!ā posted @Cleveland_Men.
āAn energy we desperately needed off the bench. Thank God for Keon,ā echoed @Poobeatworld.
The Wine and Gold are looking to avenge their early exit in last seasonās playoffs. Ellis, who is averaging 1.7 steals and 1.4 blocks, will be a huge part of their strategy, with coach Kenny Atkinson repeatedly espousing the importance of defense.
Ellis can defend the likes of Jaylen Brown of the Celtics, Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons, and Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks to help the Cavaliers come out unscathed in the Eastern Conference.
