The post-LeBron James Cleveland Cavaliers are currently formulating their new identity with trying out players like promising point guard Isaiah Taylor joining the fold. The undrafted Texas native has bounced around between teams in the G-League and the NBA. He finally finds a new home with the Cavs averaging 6.6 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 17.4 minutes per game last season with the Atlanta Hawks. So far, he’s impressed Jordan Clarkson.
Despite his measly stats and playing time, there might be more than meets the eye with the two-year point guard.
According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, Cavs backup guard Jordan Clarkson has had some good words to say about their aspiring backup point guard.
Clarkson said:
I didn’t know Isaiah was that good. I’d worked out with him a couple times over the summers and I wasn’t blown away or anything like that. Then we get to camp and I see him and it’s like, ‘oh, he’s really good.
The former Lakers guard was clearly surprised at how good Taylor turned out to be. However, behind a plethora of ball-handling guards and the inclusion of prized rookie point guard Collin Sexton, Taylor needs to be spectacular in order to rise from being a third or fourth-string point guard off the bench.
With the Cavs picking up the pieces from James’ Hollywood migration, Taylor has a good chance to be a part of the future of the franchise if he plays beyond his billing.
As is, the Cavs are in a good position to try everything out this upcoming season to gauge their future in the league.
