Cleveland Cavaliers guard Jordan Clarkson has ended his first spell as part of the Philippine national team on a high note. The Cavs stud addressed the fans in attendance after his team’s 109-55 pounding of Syria on Friday.
Clarkson showed his appreciation to the supporters and shared how proud he is to represent his home nation.
“It’s been a great experience, just being able to come out here to support my country and the flag. Thanks for everybody supporting all way through,” Clarkson said.
He even followed it up via his Instagram account.
The team finished the Asian Games tournament with two successive victories against Japan and Syria. They ended the tournament as the fifth-place finisher.
Clarkson had his best game in Philippine colors as the 6-foot-5 guard finished with 29 points, six assists, four rebounds, one block, and one steal.
Clarkson’s next chance to represent his country will be in the upcoming FIBA World Cup Qualifiers scheduled in mid-September. However, if the tug-of-war that eventually led to him being given the go-ahead just hours prior to the start of the tournament is any indication of things to come, then nothing is certain.
Both Clarkson and the national team already got over the biggest hurdle — actually making his debut for his country — so presumably, things should be more smooth sailing from here on out. Nonetheless, with the NBA season set to tip off in a month’s time, Clarkson will still need to discuss his plans with the Cavaliers and hope for the best.
