The Cleveland Cavaliers have high expectations for the 2023-24 season. They were dealt an unfortunate injury update on Saturday though. Star big man Jarrett Allen reportedly suffered a left ankle bone bruise, the team announced.
According to the report, Allen’s injury was confirmed Friday. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks, which is when the Cavs will announce the next update on his injury status.
Cavs: Jarrett Allen dealing with injury
Jarrett Allen is one of the better all-around centers in the NBA. The 25-year-old has excelled since being traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Cavs during the 2020-21 campaign. He was mentioned in some trade rumors this past offseason, but nothing came to fruition.
Allen made his first and only All-Star team in 2021-22. That season, he averaged 16.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. Allen continued to perform well in 2022-23 despite not getting selected to the All-Star team. He ultimately averaged 14.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per contest.
With Donovan Mitchell leading the charge, Cleveland is looking for a big 2023-24 campaign. Competing in the Eastern Conference won’t be easy, but the Cavs project to be a team to keep tabs on. Contending certainly is not out of the question.
With that being said, they will need Jarrett Allen on the floor. He helps to stabilize the Cavs on both offense and defense. For now, there is no set timetable for his return. As aforementioned, the Cavs will provide an update on Allen in two weeks.
All Cavaliers fans can do at the moment is hope for the best.
