Jarrett Allen made Cleveland Cavaliers history on Monday in the Cavs’ 126-99 victory over the Orlando Magic. Allen, who finished with a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double, recorded his 12th consecutive double-double which is the longest such streak in Cavs history, per the Cavaliers on X (formerly Twitter).
Allen revealed the heartwarming inspiration behind his performance after the game, via Bally Sports Cleveland.
“I got my mom in the stands, she flew down just to see this game,” Allen said. “Surprised me, so I saw her, I had to get it (the double-double).”
Jarrett Allen’s pivotal impact on Cavs
Allen’s play has been pivotal to the team’s success. The 25-year-old big man is averaging 14.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game.
Donovan Mitchell scored 25 points to go along with 13 assists and four steals in Monday’s win. He commented on Allen’s performance after the game.
“He is phenomenal,” Mitchell said of Allen. “Just to see his hard work continuously building… It’s been great to see. I don’t think he’s done… He’s going to keep setting more records. But it’s great to see. I told him that the other day, just keep going. He’s a big reason of why we’re doing what we’re doing.”
Allen also addressed setting the new Cavs record.
“It means a lot,” Allen said. “It’s only me and that number, I finally got to 12. But we’re still not done. I still want to get the record up. I still want to continue the streak.”
There isn’t any reason to doubt Allen. He has continued to improve on the offensive end of the floor. Allen is also a strong rebounder.
Allen’s double-doubles have helped the Cavs find consistency as a team as well. Cleveland is currently in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with a 26-15 record. Allen and the Cavaliers will look to keep playing at a high level moving forward.
