When it comes to signature shoe contracts in the NBA, there are many selections for fans (and fellow hoopers) to choose from (Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Paul George, and Kobe Bryant are just a few). However, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Isaiah Thomas does not have a shoe deal, and it sounds like he’d like that to change.
Thomas, now 28 years of age and in his seventh season of NBA service, sent out a tweet on Friday night to express his desire for a signature shoe.
“Man, I gotta get my own shoe!!!,” Thomas wrote. “Bron’ kicks be dope, PG (Paul George) kicks be crazy, Kyrie (Irving) got flavors for days, KD (Kevin Durant) joints be filthy and my man Kobe’s shoes are the best.”

As most hoops fans know, Isaiah Thomas has been recovering from a hip injury that he sustained in the 2017 Eastern Conference Playoffs. Initial reports indicated that the crafty ball-handler would be out until sometime in January. Now, however, the former Washington Huskies stand-out seems to be slightly ahead of schedule with regards to his return. In fact, some say he could be ready for on-court action in time for Cleveland’s upcoming West Coast road swing, which begins on Christmas Day with a match-up against the Golden State Warriors inside Oracle Arena.
The fact that Thomas does not have a shoe deal is a bit odd, especially when you consider his stats from last season. In his 76 games played for the Celtics during their 2016-17 campaign, the two-time All Star turned in some of the best statistical figures of his life, averaging a career-high 28.9 points on 46 percent shooting from the field (38 percent from beyond the arc), 5.9 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in 33.8 minutes — all while knocking down 91 percent of his free-throws (career-high).
Let’s hope that Thomas’ wish is granted sooner rather than later.
