Through the first few games of his Cleveland Cavaliers career, All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas has struggled to find consistency in his offensive game. This has contributed to the team’s struggles on that end of the floor over the last couple of weeks. According to Nikki Goel of ClutchPoints, Thomas offered a potential solution to help the Cavs break through offensively.
Ironically, the addition of Thomas has contributed to the usage of this type of play as Thomas has excelled through much of his career in isolation. It is also something that LeBron James has relied on to get his teams out of offensive funks, especially in the three years since returning to the Cavs.
The 29-year-old will also play a major factor in helping right Cleveland out of their current slump, having lost their last three games and eight out of their last 11 contests. It has also become clear that the Cavs are still adjusting to getting Thomas into the fold as one of the top scoring options after splitting the four games that he has played.
Thomas is averaging 12.3 points per game on 35.3 percent shooting from the field and 26.1 percent from 3-point range. He has been able to reach double-digit scoring twice, but has shot below 30 percent in the games he failed to hit that mark. This includes missing his first 10 shots in the 133-99 loss to the Toronto Raptors.
All-Star forward Kevin Love is still adjusting to his new role, returning to being the third scoring option. He has been putting together an impressive campaign averaging 19.2 points on 46.2 percent shooting from the field and 40.6 percent from beyond the arc along with 9.6 rebounds per game.
Despite these struggles, the Cavs still possess the fifth-highest scoring offense at 109.5 points per contest. Ultimately, this is something that should work itself out over the second half of the season with more playing time that Thomas gets on the floor together.
