In lieu of his team’s recent struggles, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Isaiah Thomas decided to send out an inspirational message to his followers on Twitter.
“I will NEVER fold,” Thomas said in his tweet. “I’m built for this! Make sure y’all have that same temperature when we turn this around and everything start clicking! I see EVERYTHING. It’s a MARATHON not a sprint!
As most hoops fans know, Thomas missed roughly seven months of action due to a hip injury he sustained towards the end of last year’s regular season but got aggravated in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. The former Washington Huskies standout made his Cavs debut earlier this month in a 127-110 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, scoring 17 points in 19 minutes of action.
Thomas, now 28 years of age, has received a certain amount of criticism for his on-court play as of late, most notably his defense, but it’s safe to say he deserves a bit of leniency. He has only played in eight games with the Cavs so far, averaging 15.9 points on 39.1 percent shooting from the field (28.0 percent from beyond the arc), 3.4 assists, and 1.3 rebounds per game. It might be safe to say that Thomas is only wrapping up his own preseason, dusting away the effect of a long layoff.
The Cavs have lost 10 of their last 13 games, including Tuesday night’s 114-102 set-back in San Antonio against the Spurs. Their next shot at redemption comes on Friday night, as they’re scheduled to host the Indiana Pacers inside Quicken Loans Arena — a team the Cavs have yet to beat. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. with Fox Sports Ohio and Fox Sports Indiana having live broadcast coverage.
