Despite only making his debut for the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, the team’s fans know how much Isaiah Thomas’ presence could make their team better and their goal of winning it all this season easier. After missing the Cavs’ first 36 games, fans couldn’t wait to see Thomas compete on the floor together with his teammates and make him feel welcome when he checks in to the game versus the Portland Trail Blazers.
The two-time All-Star received a loud ovation from the Northeast Ohio faithful who all stood up when his name was announced. Isaiah Thomas described the feeling as “special,” and admitted, via Ben Axelrod of WKYC, that it seemed like he was already playing for the Cavs for years.
Thomas wasted no time in making his presence felt as he posted impressive numbers of 17 points, on 50 percent shooting from the field, to go along with three assists in only 19 minutes of action. He provided the Cavs with another weapon they can use to lessen the scoring load on LeBron James and Kevin Love.
It can be expected that Isaiah Thomas will have more solid games like what he had on Tuesday especially if he continues to be more familiar with the Cavs’ sets. Should that happen, he could have more warm receptions in the future as he further endears himself to the Cavaliers’ fans.
