Max Strus’ playing status vs the Mavericks

Given his probable designation on the injury report, it currently seems more likely than not that Strus will be able to suit up and make his season debut for the Cavs on Sunday vs Dallas. Strus has been out of the lineup all year as he recovers from the procedure that he had this past offseason, and Cleveland could certainly use the injection of shooting that he brings to the lineup when he’s available.

Joining Strus on the injury report for the Cavs is big man Jarrett Allen, who is out for this game due to right knee tendonitis. Craig Porter, Jr. is out due to a left groin strain, while Sam Merrill will also be on the sidelines due to hamstring tightness. Jaylon Tyson is listed as questionable with left ankle soreness.

For the Mavericks, Klay Thompson is doubtful due to rest, while PJ Washington is questionable with left ankle soreness. Big man Daniel Gafford is doubtful due to illness, while Caleb Martin is probable with a left finger sprain.

Overall, the Cavs have been playing some solid basketball since their blockbuster trade deadline acquisition of James Harden from the Los Angeles Clippers, but there have been some instances, including last Sunday’s loss to the Boston Celtics, when it became clear that the team could benefit from another outside shooter.

When healthy, Strus fits that bill to a tee.
