According to several reports, the Cleveland Cavaliers are going to be without the services of Iman Shumpert for five to seven days due to knee soreness.

While it’s true that he started in Saturday’s 123-101 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, Shumpert sat out of Sunday night’s 114-95 loss to the New York Knicks. It sounds like he’s been dealing with the nagging ailment for some time. However, X-ray scans taken on Monday revealed no signs of structural damage.

Via Joe Vardon of cleveland.com:

“Shumpert has been experiencing pain since at least Friday, and it increased before Sunday’s loss to the Knicks, the team said.”

Shumpert will go through treatment and rehabilitation. The Cavs are expected to give an update on his status sometime next week.

In his six games played for the Cavs this season, “Shump,” as he is known, has turned in averages of 6.0 points on 41.4 percent shooting from the field (38.5 percent from beyond the arc), 2.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assist. There is no doubt that Shumpert’s defensive presence will be missed. Who might step in for the savvy defender remains to be seen. Maybe more Jose Calderón, maybe not.

The Cavs, losers of three straight games, will be back in action on Wednesday night to host the Indiana Pacers inside Quicken Loans Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST, with Fox Sports Ohio and Fox Sports Indiana having live broadcast coverage.
