San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence has issued a big challenge for Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James. No, Pence is not challenging the four-time NBA MVP to a home run derby or a slam dunk contest. Instead, Pence wants James to answer his call to take him on in a game of Mario Kart.
Here is Pence issuing his dare for LeBron James.
Hunter Pence’s basketball allegiance is not one to be questioned. Pence has been an outfield for the Giants since 2011, and has helped the team bring two World Series titles to the Bay Area, so by geographical reasons, he is a Golden State Warriors fan. This gives a little more flavor to a possible Mario Kart showdown between Pence and James since the latter certainly would not like to lose yet again to someone from the Bay Area in any game after already losing two NBA Finals to the Warriors.
Pence has played the game with Warriors point guard Stephen Curry before, and even won that matchup. Mario Kart is in a completely different realm than the sport played in real life by Curry, James, and Pence, but beating two future basketball Hall of Famers, regardless of the contest, is a something that is worth bragging about in the Giants’ clubhouse for Pence.
James is unlikely to have any time for that now, though, as he is busy trying to will the Cavaliers out of a bad stretch. The Cavs are just 4-7 in their last 11 games. Pence, meanwhile, also has a few more weeks to mess around, as spring training is just around the corner.
We’re still hoping the two would hook up for a game of Mario Kart soon though.
