It is not about to get any easier for the Cleveland Cavaliers. If they are looking for a respite from their current losing skid, they will not get it anytime soon, as three of their next four opponents involve some of the top contenders for this season’s NBA championship.
That dreaded span has the Cavs scheduled to play the Golden State Warriors, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the San Antonio Spurs, as noted by Yahoo Sports.
Sure, there’s an Orlando Magic game sandwiched between the Cavs’ meetings with the Warriors and the Thunder, but that contest is not going to be a cakewalk either for the defending Eastern Conference champions. Cleveland barely edged the Magic on Jan. 6 in a 131-127 road win. In addition, the Cavs also lost to Orlando earlier this season on Oct. 21 at home, 114-93.
Still, it’s the games against the Warriors, the Thunder, and the Spurs where Cleveland is going to be put under the microscope the most.
The Cavs will meet Golden State on Monday for the second time this season on seemingly wobbly knees, as they are on a three-game losing streak they failed to arrest during a 97-95 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Friday.
Cleveland is just not looking right of late on both ends of the court. Over their last five games, the Cavs are allowing opponents to dump an average of 108.5 points on them. Cleveland’s weakness has always been its defense this season, and their bad shape is being aggravated by a suddenly sputtering offense; Cleveland has not scored more than 99 points in four of their last five games.
These are just a few of the issues the 26-16 Cavaliers have to fix soon before they get exposed once again in the coming days.
