Evan Mobley has high aspirations for the 2023-24 season. The Cleveland Cavaliers big man revealed his lofty goals during Media Day, per Chris Fedor of clevelanddotcom.
“Among #Cavs Evan Mobley’s individual goals this season: Make the All-Star team and win Defensive Player of the Year. He said he is ready to ‘take off’ this coming season,” Fedor reported.
Cavs: Evan Mobley shooting for the stars
The Cavs have built a playoff contender with Donovan Mitchell leading the charge. Cleveland surely feels confident heading into the 2023-24 season, but the progression of Mobley will be crucial for their success.
The 22-year-old is preparing for his third NBA campaign. Mobley has impressed in each of his first two years. That said, it will be interesting to see if he can continue taking steps forward.
Evan Mobley averaged 15 points per game during his rookie year. He shot just under 51 percent from the field and added 8.3 rebounds per game. Mobley improved each of those numbers in 2022-23, averaging 16.2 points per contest on 55.4 percent field goal shooting to go along with nine rebounds per game.
Durability has been a bonus with Mobley. He played in 69 games in 2021-22 and 79 games this past season. If he can continue to stay healthy, Mobley probably will establish himself as a star during the 2023-24 campaign. His performance has been trending in a positive direction and there’s nothing to suggest that won’t continue moving forward.
And if Evan Mobley does achieve his goals and ends up becoming an All-Star and winning Defensive Player of the Year, the Cavs may end up fighting for the top spot in the East.
